The Spring edition of Euro Observer (Vol. 12, no. 1) carries four articles on health facility investment across Europe. These are based on the EuHPN/European Observatory books Investing in Hospitals of the Future and Capital Investment for Health: Case Studies from Europe, published in 2009. The articles provide updates and new insights into the planning and capital investment programmes in Alzira (Spain), the Coxa Hospital (Finland), and the regional health service reconfiguration in Northern Ireland, UK. The introductory article Even in tough times: investing in hospitals of the future synthesises the lessons from the two books and examines how best to ensure successful healthcare capital investment programmes.
