European Investment Bank (EIB)

As part of its Human Capital division, the EIB finances health projects in a number of areas, including:

• construction, expansion and refurbishment of clinics and hospitals
• provision of equipment including laboratory equipment and medical scanners
• information and communications technology such as e-health, digital imaging and electronic patient record or clinical decision support systems in hospitals
• medical research centres

The largest part of the activity of the EIB in the health sector is financing of investment by public authorities in EU-15 countries. However, finance offered to projects in New Member States, in the Acceding and Accession States, in the Western Balkans and in Mediterranean countries is on the increase. In addition to attractive finance, in these parts of the world the EIB can offer substantial assistance to the promoter in terms of design and implementation of the project.
