The 2011 European Health Property Network workshop was organised in partnership with LCB-HEALTHCARE, a European Lead Market public procurement network that aims to stimulate innovation for low carbon, sustainable, green solutions in the healthcare building sector.  The hosts for the 2011 workshop were the Società Italiana dell’Architettura e dell’Ingegneria per la Sanità (SIAIS; Italian Society for Healthcare Architecture and Engineering).

In 2008 the Italian Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Policy published this report on the challenge of health improvement in a regionalized framework.  The report describes one response to this challenge - 'CCM' network, a collaborative framework for 'active prevention'.  It analyses the approach to stewardship and performance assessment, in the context of the Italian National Health Service, and provides a thorough case study example through the Umbria Document for the Evaluation of Health Determinants and System Strategies (DVSS).

EuHPN Workshop - Stockholm 2010

The 2009 annual workshop had two main themes: infrastructure for mental health services, and design for dementia care.  An international field of experts in both of these areas gave a series of highly informative and thought-provoking presentations on how to design, plan, and finance the buildings associated with mental health and dementia care.

In addition to these important themes, the 2009 workshop was also the occasion to launch Capital Investment for Health: Case Studies from Europe.  This book is the culmination of a 3-year joint study conducted by EuHPN and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.  You can download a pdf copy of the text here.

EuHPN is grateful to Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust, and to MAAP Architects, for helping to facilitate a number of site visits in the County Durham, Tyneside, and Teesside areas.  Sponsorship from BDP and the Wolfson Research Institute was an important element in making the workshop a success.

The EuHPN launch of Investing in hospitals of the future was held on 27th April 2009.  Speakers included a number of the book's editors, authors and reviewers (Nigel Edwards, Barrie Dowdeswell, Bernd Rechel, Steve Wright, John Cole, James Barlow, Phil Nedin).  Participants came from all over Europe to hear not only what the speakers had to say about the conclusions and lessons contained in the book, but also to look forward to new developments in health service planning.
